Initially, when I started with Kisar, he was very interested in what I wanted. He wanted to know what I was all about – what I wanted from my workouts and how he could help me reach my specific goals. [He] appears genuinely interested in new clients. He enjoys meeting new people and it shows. Hard to describe, but he gets to know his clients very well. Your trainer becomes your therapist.

The in-home training versus. going to a gym is all about time. I think most people are crazy busy and the benefit of not having to drive half an hour back and forth to the gym is huge. Also, a lot people, especially women, don’t want to have to worry about their appearance.

Having some training in psychology might help too; most people like to talk to their trainer like they do their therapist, bartender, nail technician, or hair stylist!

It is so convenient having you come to the house. I have been a member of L.A. Fitness for 5 years now. I can think of many, many excuses not to get in the car and drive there to work out. I hate working out, but if I have someone walk through the door and literally force me, (by using motivational persuasion, of course) then I do it. Plus, we can talk to you and the time goes by quickly.

Most female clients who would want this service in their homes have a need to [be able] trust you, not only as a health and fitness trainer, but as a man in their home. You just simply present yourself as another person. It is amazing the number of topics you can speak about with women. Word of mouth is important. Now that I know you, I would definitely pass on good things about you. You are truly a gem, Kisar!

I started with you due to the RAVE reviews the Ryans gave you. It was convenient for me to work out at their house and you were in a price range I could afford. You are an outstanding trainer in that you have an abundance of patience, letting each client move at a pace commensurate with where they are at physically and psychologically. You also keep the workouts varied. I never know what we are going to do in a given workout and I like that. You are responsive to my goals and work these into the varied workouts

I feel that even if I were disciplined enough to conduct my own workouts, I still would not have the same results I get with you. You push me far beyond the point I would push myself, and you can do it without being a drill sergeant - a great combination of talents and effort [and] you have the gift of conversing with just about anyone about any topic.

Coming to my house is HUGE! You know my schedule. I feel like I am an individual client, not just one of many you see and do the same thing with. I know I can be a pain, but you always call me and understand how busy I am. You accommodate my needs. I like the convenience and casual atmosphere of in-home training. However, I like working out at the gym with you as well.

You are serious about training, which makes me more serious about it as well…you don’t put on any pretenses. I train with you because I respect you for your knowledge, honesty, integrity, and the bonus that you are genuine, as well as being a task master. I chose you because you were easy to talk to and you embodied the ideas of fitness…and… it was your hot body! I think you provide excellent customer service. You are on time. You are conscientious regarding a person’s physical capabilities, and I like your stories!

The gym was not the best place to be trained. I found it distracting and the time allotted for one-on-one training was approximately 35 minutes. The environment was very crowded, equipment was being used and I found myself trying to adjust my schedule around my trainer’s.

I started because I needed to incorporate fitness into my life, and your service was the most appealing. You were the most professional and polished trainer I met with, and since I am a professional, that resonated. At our interview you started with goals, reasons, and what we want to accomplish with our training. You were genuinely interested in more than just filling another slot in your appointment book. I felt like you selected your clients as much as they selected you, and I believe that it is what makes you successful in the long run, because the folks that fit well, stay with it.

I have stayed because you have such a terrific “can do” attitude that it makes it impossible for me to give up on myself. You’ve pushed me and you’ve challenged me through the most physically demanding, personally challenging time in my life – always smiling and making me laugh about it. You keep it interesting; you keep it balanced. Mostly, you keep it real. [There’s] only the occasional spirit-crunching day, like stairs, or those first really hard weeks up the hills. And you don’t tout “grass-juice drinking” and “eat only vegetables” nonsense. You even admit to the occasional human act of fried foods

Coming to me is HUGE. [It’s] probably the single easiest way to reduce, if not eliminate, the “I am too busy” or “I don’t feel like it” cancellations. Home is never out of the way, I end up there every night. Also, I am very self conscious working out with strangers present. Being at home makes that less of an issue – the only folks who see us are my neighbors and the pets.

I believe a really great personal trainer needs to keep the “personal” aspect in mind, be in tune with their clients’ mental and physical states. In order to fine tune our fitness routines or keep us on track, you need to know where our heads are at, what hurts, how we are sleeping, etc. It can be a little invasive, a little intimate; so, it requires a big dose of trust. You built a relationship with me. I trust you. You’ve become an important part of my life. You’ve become a friend I look forward to spending an hour with, three times a week, to catch up, talk about the world and workout.

I always brag about how great my trainer is and that I would be a lot further behind in my knee recovery without him. The day after I hired you, I blew out my knee. It was a built-in excuse to quit before I started, and you didn’t let me. You showed up and put me to work, crutches and all. I will always be grateful for that. It’s the first time in my life, I have actually stuck with a fitness activity! I have sent a lot of people off to find personal trainers, but I haven’t heard many come back with glowing reports.
